(And Develop New Ones Instead)

Habits are automated behaviours which predetermine the choice of our decisions throughout the day. Unless we change them, we can effectively remain on autopilot all our life. Are habits difficult to change? Yes, and no... It depends on your motivation, emotional leverage and goals that you are looking to accomplish.

Developing new habits can be a challenging process, but it is essential for our personal development. Habits are learned behaviors that can help shape our lives and lead to better outcomes.

5 ways to start changing your habits today:

1. Start small.

When trying to form a new habit, it is important to start with something manageable. Don’t try to make huge changes all at once; focus on smaller, more achievable goals. This will help build momentum and make the process easier.

2. Set a schedule.

The best way to ensure new habits stick is to set a regular schedule. This could mean making sure you do something at the same time each day, or just ensuring you do it regularly. The more you stick to a specific routine, the more likely you are to form the habit.

3. Track your progress.

Tracking your progress can help you stay motivated and accountable. Whether it’s writing down your successes each day or tracking your progress in a journal, it is important to monitor your habits and make sure you’re on the right track.

4. Celebrate your successes.

Celebrating small successes is a great way to stay motivated and keep going. Every time you complete a task or reach a milestone, take a moment to celebrate it. This will help to keep you motivated and develop the habit further.

5. Be patient.

Developing new habits can take time and it is important to be patient with the process. It is important to remain consistent and be willing to put in the work. If you are patient and consistent, you will eventually see the results.  Developing new habits is a process that takes time and effort. But if you are willing to put in the work, you can create habits that will benefit you in the long run. Start small, set a schedule, track your progress, celebrate your successes, and be patient. With dedication and consistency, you can develop new habits that will help you reach your goals.

You can change your habits with patience, persistence and focus. It will take time. The estimated time is between 66 and 100 days (University College London 2009)
